Are you a talented senior executive who feels unappreciated or overworked?
There is a very interesting recent slide pack by the Harvard Business Review on “What We Learned About Management in 2016 in 19 Charts”.
One particular chart that initially puzzled me and then intrigued me was about leaders who are held in high regard by colleagues — but have the lowest career satisfaction.
One implication is to acknowledge this by ensuring that senior influential people do recognise their overwork and to “share the load” with additional appropriate similarly-minded colleagues. It isn’t always easy to find such colleagues — but they are there, and can ensure that the leaders don’t suffer burn-out.
Also, re-thinking and re-engineering the business processes that they own — especially in the light of new innovation thinking — can help lessen the load.
Let’s acknowledge the challenges of collaboration and help engineer it so that our brightest and best don’t get burned out!
